About Us

We believe the individual impact of football players cannot be measured by vanity metrics like goals, passes, tackles won or possession. Real team players influence besides their own metrics especially their team members, their opponents and as a final output the game result directly and indirectly. This is what Football GAP is about.

Game Review

In a thrilling Premier League encounter at St James' Park, Everton edged out Newcastle United with a 3-2 victory. This result was somewhat unexpected, given Newcastle's strong home form and Everton's recent struggles on the road. However, Everton's tactical adjustments and clinical finishing proved decisive. The match began with Everton taking the lead in the 19th minute through Jarrad Branthwaite (GAP +0.9%), who capitalized on a defensive lapse. Newcastle responded swiftly, with Jacob Ramsey (GAP -1.7%) equalizing in the 32nd minute. Despite Newcastle's efforts, Everton regained the lead just two minutes later when Beto found the back of the net, showcasing his striking prowess. The second half saw Newcastle pushing for an equalizer, and their persistence paid off in the 82nd minute when substitute Jacob Murphy scored, leveling the match at 2-2. However, Everton's Thierno Barry, who came on as a substitute, delivered the decisive blow in the 83rd minute, securing all three points for the visitors. Tactically, Everton's head coach made four changes to the starting lineup, bringing in Dwight McNeil, Vitaliy Mykolenko (GAP +2.7%), Beto, and Jake O'Brien. These changes were instrumental, especially with Mykolenko's defensive contributions and Beto's goal. Newcastle made a single change, with Joelinton (GAP +4.0%) coming in for Joe Willock, aiming to bolster their midfield. Key performances included Joelinton, who was influential in midfield despite the loss, and Everton's Idrissa Gueye (GAP +2.4%), who controlled the tempo effectively. Jordan Pickford (GAP +2.0%) also made crucial saves to keep Everton in the game. This victory lifts Everton's spirits as they aim to climb the Premier League table, while Newcastle will need to regroup quickly to maintain their position in the upper half. The result highlights Everton's potential to upset stronger teams, while Newcastle must address defensive vulnerabilities to sustain their push for European qualification.

What is GAP?

What is Plus Minus Goals (G±)?

Plus Minus Goals (G±) is the average goal difference per game while the player was on the pitch. A value above 0 indicates that the team rather wins, a value below 0 means his team concedes more goals than they score when the player is on the pitch. As an example, if the player's team is winning 3:1 the goal difference is +2, if the player's team is loosing 0:1, the goal difference is -1. It is a pure metric which is barely adjusted for circumstances to purely show the goal difference.

What is GAP?

GAP (Game Advantage Percentage) shows the percentage gap between a player and the average league player. It answers the question: How much does a player improve or worsen a team's performance? It is based on high level game data with a focus on the impact on the goal difference (G±) from the last 50 games of a player. Besides that, GAP goes further and considers game context by involving data from the player and all other players who are at the same time on the pitch, no matter if teammates or opponents. Football GAP - the individual metric for team players.
